I live in South Carolina.

My favorite color is BLUE.

6/4/2006 I am a 57 yr old white male. I was diagnosed with alpha 1 in 10/2004. I first was diagnosed with asthma when I was 31 yrs old, then few years later it was chronic asthma. I guess about 9 or 10 yearrs later it was upgraded to COPD/emphysema.

I have been treated by the same doctor since the beginning. I was never tested for Alpha 1. About 4 yrs ago, I asked him if he thought that I might have Alpha 1.  I had, by then, been doing all kinds of research on the pc and discovered Alpha 1, so I asked my doctor if he thought that I might have Alpha 1.  He said no (I had never been tested).

In September 2004, I traveled to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts to see if I qualified for a clinical trial in the Aries BLVR procedure. About a month later, they told me that I did not qualify because I had Alpha 1. Well, to say the least, I was totally stunned. Here I have been being treated by the same doctor for over 20 years for a progressively worsening respiratory condition and was never tested for Alpha 1.

Currently, I am on Prolastin augmentation therapy weekly.  Have been on it for about 13 months.
