5/27/2006 I was recently diagnosed with Alpha-1. I have been going to the doctors a lot recently because I have been sick since last year and I have been having a lot of blood tests for various things. The doctors found that I was an Alpha-1 phenotype SZ. I don't have any problems with my Alpha-1 but the doctors are still looking for other things because Alpha-1 doesn't explain any of my symptoms.

When I found out I had Alpha-1 it was when we were starting projects in health class. I decided to do my presentation on Alpha-1. I was surfing the internet and I was touched by many of the alpha's stories and I was shocked at how little recognition Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency receives. I am trying to raise awareness for people suffering from Alpha-1 and have been passing out peach ribbons to students at my school. I admire all of your strength.
